  Newsletter - June 2007

COMING SOON!! Our great new online shop! The only place to buy all your Gordon gear.

From The President

I hope you're all enjoying the Rugby, some great games are being played and the home games have been great thanks to our support crews putting on the BBQ and beers at the games.

More cheap eats are on the way and we'd love to see you all there, we'll try and arrange more in the near future. In the meantime see if you can make it this Saturday.

As always, we're looking for volunteers for the BBQ so, if you can spare a morning or afternoon, we'd love for you to come along and lend a hand.

Our next game is the Eastwood Gala Day this Sunday starting at 9:00am - It would be great to field a full side so be sure to let us know if you're coming or not.

Scotland is only 15 months away so be sure to register with John Finch and start paying towards what will be a great trip. At the moment we have a touring party of about 35 with 10 players. More players would be fantastic as we'd love to field a full Stags side as we run on to Murrayfield. Show your interest and nominate before it is too late!!!

Go to the link on the website to see the information regarding the tour.

See you on the 24th June at Eastwood.

Pheatured Photo

As the season progresses so does the quality of the photos. There are some great action shots being taken making the selection of the Pheatured Photo harder each month. Be sure to check out all the great action shots from our 2007 Photo Album.

It was a close call once again but the Pheatured Photo this month has to go to Brad Horan for his impersonation of a Muppet. I see a striking resemblance to Fozzy Bear............

Guess Who, Don't Sue!!

As we all know, old Rugby players are a bunch of old women who love nothing better than a good gossip, right? Well, after a couple of "suggestions" and "anonymous" emails I present the following, can you Guess Who?

  • Which high flying Stag is now number 3 with a bullet as the most downloaded picture in the NSW Prison system thanks to his red shorted, male camel toe? Rumours suggest 3rd only to George Michael and Anthony Callea!

  • Who is the 'Superstar Stag' and budding personal trainer recently caught not once, but twice, having a quick Winnie Red in the shadows? Apparently his wife is not happy he's back on the gaspers.

  • Which relatively new kid on the block is prepared to do BBQ duty provided he can bring along his "Barbie Bitch" in the shape of a recently returned shaven head Stag? They make a lovely couple ........

Got some gossip to share with the boys? or just want to start a nasty rumour? send it to newsletter@gordonstags.org.au and we'll  spread the news.

Stags Ahoy!!

From time to time on of our Stags leaves us for various reasons. It's always good to hear from them, especially when there in one of the not so friendly parts of the world. Here we have an email from Jeremy, over there......

Dear Mr President

It is very hot here in Iraq. I have taken a photo of me in the Gordon strip. Will email it if this email gets through. I hope that the team is playing well and we have had a good turnout for the games. We have an ex- Wallaby here. His name is Marc McInnes he played in the 80s. Good bloke. Pity I cant drink over here.

So how the boys playing? Hopefully all games are still ending in a draw.

Nikki and Josh are well and I will see them in Hong Kong soon.

Can you pass onto to all the team that I am thinking of them and missing playing rugby terribly.

Jeremy

Lindfield & Wahroongah - 20th May 2007

Gordon have been playing both clubs for over 10 years and always have had great matches, as was the case on 20th May.

Although both clubs know it is a draw at the end of the match, it was played with great vigour. Gordon, of course, coming on top with no blood spilt. Only one injury was recorded, that being sprained ankle.

Brett Holden, being beaten on the wing had to turn and chase catching his opponent metres from the try line and putting him into touch. Great chase Brett, welcome back. They, of course, celebrated their on field rivalry with the traditional chug-a-lug which saw Brett just pip his opposing number again.

Barry Carr took great pleasure in awarding Karl Houghton the Mug's Mug for being lifted and put on his back by an opposing player half his size.

Various awards were handed out and received from all teams and the days ended with Lindfield & Wahroonga inviting us to play at their home ground next year.

Check out the photos here.

Penrith & Oakhill Game Report - 3rd June 2007

The mountain men from Penrith arrived at Chatswood at 1.30 pm and promptly requested a beer. When told that they were just chilled, not cold, they said, “that’s fine, we just need a drink!”

Gordon players arrived (a total of 19) and the game got under way. Brad Horan spent more time warming up that he did on the field because of a head clash in the first tackle with team mate Matt Fowler. Brad left the field to have his head attended to by a “professional “nurse and looked like Fozzy Bear when she had finished with him. Brad was conspicuous by his absence during the presentations, perhaps leaving early to avoid being recipient of the Mug’s Mug!  Click to View Larger Version

Matt saw Brad being attended to on the sideline and decided that he would like some of the same attention with a cut eye and suffering a light concussion. When asked to referee, Matt said” I don’t remember playing and it looks like there are too many players on the field (seeing double) . Thanks Matt.

Needless to say, in Brad's absence, the honour of receiving the Mug's Mug went to Matt

The Oakhill boys arrived in force and as usual, the majority of their players had to have been under age as they are so slick. Oakhill being a new team to the golden oldies had no red or purple shorts for their team, however, Gordon, under strength due to previous injuries were strong and gave a grand display of courage to end the game 17 all. ANOTHER DRAW!!

The three teams combined into two barbarian sides for a further 20 minutes which was great fun as it was difficult to know who was on which team, but created great camaraderie.

The regular meat raffle was fun by Brittany Prowse and her friends. Thanks girls.

Click to View Larger VersionBrittany then drew out her dad’s ticket to win the raffle. So, of course we all know that Brittany rigged the raffle!!

Overall, it was a great day with lots of fun friendship and fraternity on the day. What better way to end it than having a couple of virgins slugging it out in a chug-a-lug. Welcome to Golden Oldies Boys!
