The
Scotland trip will soon be upon us and we've updated all the details
of the festival and pre-tour organised by the Gordon Stags.
We've managed to
get a great deal with
International Sports Tours

reduces the cost from the originally quoted $5,900 to give everyone
more bang for their buck, here's the details;
AUD$5,750 -
THE WORKS!!
Per Person Twin Share. Festival and the 8 Day/7 Night Pre-Tour including Air Fares
(excluding taxes),
Accommodation and the Festival Costs.
AUD$2,450 -

and the Festival Costs. Perfect
for those who want to organise their own travel and tours,
especially if you're lucky enough to be able to cash in frequent
flyers points.
An additional single supplement does apply for those who don't want
to share.
If you'd like to join us at the Festival and on the Pre-Tour
download a Gordon Stags registration form
here and don't forget to check out the
Festival page on the website, it's
been updated with all the details..
For further information contact John Finch via our
Contacts Page or call 9908 4382 and get on board for Scotland.
An important point to note
The breakdown of
payments is;
Festival:
$2,450 - Payable to Gordon Stags

$3,300 - Payable to International Sports Tours
All payments to
date have been towards the Festival only. Payments for the Pre-Tour

Okay, before I
start let me preface this by saying it is going to be an advertorial
but this is one with a difference. In this one we both get
something.
The Gordon Stags
website is hosted through
Smarty Host. We've
got a great offer that has us hosted for the next 20 years for a one
off cost including all their power tools like the Photo Gallery,
Shop and Blog. I'm going to see about using the Blog during the
Festival to give all those at home daily updates.
So why am I
telling you this?
They have a
special offer called MATES RATES and we all know what that
means...........yep, discounts for our friends. The best part about
this off though is that we get a kick back too.
Here's how it
works.
Any time you
purchase a new service from Smarty Host simply quote the Mates
Rates Discount Code below. You'll get a whopping
10% discount
off the listed price.
Every
time one of our mates, or your mates, uses our discount code we
receive a 5%
credit voucher
of the transaction. The 5% voucher accumulates with each of our
mates orders.
So the
more services our mates order the more money we accumulate as a
voucher. We can use this voucher for renewal, upgrades and new
services, extra space for all those photos you all seem to like.

So, if you or your
company or your friends or your friends companies (that's right pass
it around, share the love. It doesn't matter who uses the code), are
in the market for a domain name or web hosting check out Smarty host
and if they suit you use the Mate Rates code for a great discount
and help the club out at the same time.
Smarty Host
are recognised as one of the best web services companies in
Australia, why? because they not only do it smarter, they do it
cheaper (check out the
) and they do it all. Check out their list of
services and if anything takes your fancy don't forget to use your
Mates Rates Code.
September 2007
Scotland is only 12 months away and we need to
confirm our participation at the festival and secure our
accommodation. As you can imaging the cheap seats are selling fast.
At this time we have budget estimates, it's pretty
hard to get tour companies and airlines to confirm prices 12 months
out. We will have final prices and confirmation of the pre-tour by
1st December 2007.
Deposit Payable is $500.00 per
person
Your deposit is refundable less 50 pounds ($100)
prior to 31st December 2007 so don't miss out, print a registration
form and send in your deposit prior to the 15th September 2007.
As a guide, at the moment the approximate costs
look something like;
AUD$5,900 - Festival and the Pre-Tour including Air Fares,
Accommodation and the Festival Costs.
AUD$4,250 - Festival only including Air Fares and
Accommodation
AUD$2,500 - Festival only including Accommodation. Perfect
for those who want to organise their own travel and tours,
especially if you're lucky enough to be able to cash in frequent
flyers points.

We finally found someone who hasn't got Old Timers
Disease or killed too many brain cells during their Rugby tours to
provide us with a history, and photos, of the Gordon Stags from the
start. As the Stags were formed for the first Golden Oldies Festival
we've added the story to our
History Page.
Check out this photo of the first Stags side. Is
that really a Priest in the back row?

Thanks to Peter Goodman, one of the original
Stags, for the History and the Photos. We look forward to more
stories from the Stags past.
April 2007
With the season underway it's
timely to remind players of the importance of being covered by
players insurance, just ask Matt Prowse.
Each year the club plays an annual
premium to cover all playing members of the Gordon Stags. The $5.00
paid at each game by the players is a contribution towards this
premium and does not automatically ensure coverage.
IMPORTANT -
The insurance policy states:
"Members are automatically covered provided they are Registered Members
of your club"
Don't risk it. Be sure to Renew or
Apply for Gordon Stags Membership before the next time you play. You
can download a membership form
here, post it in or bring it with you to the next game along with
the $35.00 payment.
We'll have some forms at the game,
just in case.
Planning for the Edinburgh
Festival is well underway with various options for the pre-tour
being looked at. All these are aimed at reducing the overall cost.
As a guide, at the moment the
approximate costs look something like;
AUD$5,400 - Festival and the Pre-Tour including Air Fares,
Accommodation and the Festival Costs.
AUD$4,250 - Festival only including Air Fares and
Accommodation
AUD$2,500 - Festival only including Accommodation. Perfect
for those who want to organise their own travel and tours,
especially if you're lucky enough to be able to cash in frequent
flyers points.
We'll firm these up as we get more
details.
To learn more
go to our
Edinburgh
page and read all about it. We've updated the website with all the
details of the pre-tour and the festival itself so be sure to check
it out.
The trip is only 18 months away and will be here
before you know it. You will need to register and a deposit will be
required at some future date. What better way than to register and
start paying toward your trip with our easy payment plan.
The easy payment plan will enable you to pay
approximately $3000 towards the trip prior to final payments being
required. Payments of $200 per month can be made quarterly by
registering with John Finch either at the games or by calling him. John will provide details of how to
send payments.
Register now by contacting John Finch via our
Contacts Page or calling him on 9908 4382 and start planning for Scotland.
With the season underway some
great shots are being taken of the games thanks to our unofficial
photographer. Be sure to check out all the great action shots from
our
2007 Photo Album. It was a close call for the Pheatured
Photo this month with plenty to choose from. With some good games of
Rugby being played we thought it more fitting to show one of the
great photos of the boys in action.
This photo shows Bill Banham
standing firm under fire as the might of The Royal Military College,
Duntroon bears down on him in the guise of a 120kg, 200cm (6'4", 19
stone in the old currency) British Army Tank Commander. A daunting
site for any opposing player.

Standing Firm
Needless to say Bill nailed him in
the tackle and hurled him mercilessly to the ground so the Stags
Forwards could come in and finish the job. Well that's our story and
we're sticking to it. For his efforts Bill was rewarded with much
needed pain relief at the after game function back at the Olims
Hotel.
February 2007
Our first newsletter hit email and letter boxes in
February and has been an instant success. Each month we'll bring you

information to keep all the Stags in the loop.
Hope you enjoy the newsletters and if you have
anything to input or feedback please send it to our
Website Administrator and we'll look after it for you.

AUD$5,900 per person including a 7 day pre tour and the festival
and return airfares. To learn more

details of the pre-tour and the festival itself so be sure to check

The Photo Gallery is growing all the time and
we've received some great photos. Each month in our newsletter we'll show a Pheatured Photo from our growing library of fond memories.
Check out this one of Matt Prowse in full flight,
a sight never to be seen again on any playing field with the discovery of his "
amazing self
exploding" knee. Rumour has it he'll be coming out to trot around
the forwards this season, will he be first to the breakdown
or the first to breakdown? ....... MEDIC!!!

Go you good thing! GO!
You can view this and others in the
"Blasts from the Past" section of our photo gallery.
January 2007
With the end of the Wellington Festival it's time to plan for the
next. John Finch has already sent in our registration and plans are
underway for fund raising activities.
The festival will be held in September 2008 and the trip includes a
pre-tour for 7 days from London to Edinburgh for the festival then
return flights to Sydney via London. Total cost will be approximately
AUD$5,900 per person and includes airfares, accommodation and the
festival week.
In the new year we will set up a payment program as well as fund
raising and sponsorship to assist in the cost of the tour. Any ideas
regarding fund raising or sponsorship are most welcome just
contact Bob and let him know.
To find out more view our World Festivals
Page.
December 2006
As is usual after the World Golden Oldies Festival
the Gordon Stags Golden Oldies Committee meet to hold the biennial
(fancy word meaning every two years) elections to appoint new
committee members.
This year Bob Lollback was elected President. Bob
has been playing and touring with the Golden Oldies since 1987. He
has been Vice President, President and is a Life Member of the
Golden Oldies. Bob organised the tour to the festivals in South
Australia and Toulouse, France, which included 44 people on a 10 day
pre tour of Spain, Portugal and France as the Festival week in
France.
John Finch was re-elected Treasurer having held
the position since 1991. Being a retired member of the Banking
fraternity we are in very good financial management hands.
Mark Cummins moves from Social Organiser to Vice
President with Matt Fowler taking on the Social Organising role.
Karl Houghton, due to his absence from the meeting and because he's
done such a great job, was re-elected Equipment Officer. Matt Prowse
will, as always, continue to do a great job organising our games.
We'd like to take this opportunity to thank Bill
Banham for all his work as President.
All of the Committee members can be contacted via
email by simply clicking the link on the
Contacts
Page of our website.
